Edison Makes Prosthetic Hand Move... With His Mind

During the Summer of 2024, Edison attended a pre-college STEMx Assistive Robotics & Neuroscience program at NJIT where he built a neural transmitter that controlled a prosthetic 3rd printed hand using only his thoughts.

From the program's description:

A dynamic 5-day program designed for high school students, immersing them in the transformative fields of assistive robotics and brain-computer interface (BCI) technology using Neuromaker. Participants begin by diving into the principles of assistive technology, followed by hands-on workshops in building a robotic hand and exploring BCI headbands. Through collaborative projects, students integrate the robotic hand

and the BCI headbands, fostering creativity and problem-solving skills. The program culminates in final project presentations, highlighting the social impact of assistive technology. By combining theoretical understanding with practical application, students leave with a deep appreciation for the potential of assistive robotics and BCIs in enhancing accessibility and communication for individuals with diverse needs.
